DOLE FAM emerged out of a previous project; OLD CUNT, in which Austerity band-mates Fidge and Stu worked for the first time w/ found audio, field recordings, visual art (acrylics, collages, banners), and performance art presentations. Many of the processes and methodologies they learned doing OC ended up constituting the embryonic core of DOLE FAM.
DOLE FAM's work is intended as a détournement of existing musics, and a humble little attempt to subvert the existing machineries of normative cultural production. This release, 'Deux Homages' is two pieces of minimal experimental sound. All audio on this release originates in found sources (side A from works by John Cage, side B from works by Luciano Berio). Taking inspiration from Dadaism and William S. Burroughs, the fragments of sound are subjected to 'cut-up' processes. The cut-ups are then re-combined w/ a rudimentary system of chance procedures playing an integral role to decisions relating to processing and structure. This method of composition allowed Fidge to be somewhat liberated from habit, sense, and established patterns, it also served to playfully distort his inevitable temptations to lean on any pre-existing authorial voice(s). The resulting music is repetitive, minimalist, sometimes blissful, calm, and meditative, but also at times featuring quite jarring clangs, bangs, and dissonant elements.
DOLE FAM is influenced by EVERYTHING. Here's a meandering list of stuff that may or may not relate to this release - minimalism (Reich, Riley), Dadaism, dreams/nightmares, 2000s UK dubstep (Digital Mystikz, Shackleton, Burial), liminal spaces (physical spaces and cultural spaces), Kurt Schwitters, altered states of consciousness (thru drugs, mental illness, sensory deprivation etc.), No Wave, Situationism (Debord, Vaneigem), hypnagogic hallucinations, all-night warehouse parties, Erik Satie, Mark Fisher, the creation of Temporary Autonomous Zones (politically and artistically), Han Bennink, Fela Kuti, William S. Burroughs, post-punk (1978 -1981), travel, noise, benzo withdrawals, campfires on the beach, Damo-era Can, late-night psychogeographic derives, stand up comedy, experiences of extreme sleep deprivation, jazz (Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Peter Brotzmann, John Butcher, electric period Miles Davis, Alice Coltrane), minimal techno, Marx's 1844 Manuscripts etc. etc. etc.

DOLE FAM is an experimental art project, mostly working w/ sound, but at times presenting performance art, abstract theatre, spoken-word, and multi-media happenings. It's primarily the brainchild of Fidge Bibblyotek, but in a live setting he often collaborates with S. Crouton, Stu Chaney, and Gabriel Pentin.
Fidge Bibblyotek is an autistic, queer, outsider artist, musician, poet, anarcho-communist, scholar, zine editor, event promoter, and punk rocker. He read International Politics at Portsmouth followed by an MA in Social and Political Thought at Sussex. His academic work was mainly focused on libertarian socialism. Fidge's MA thesis was on punk rock, anarchism, and the continued importance of DIY cultural activity. Fidge plays guitar and/or sings in several post-punk bands; Austerity, Mules, and Grunt Work. He puts out NEVER WORK, a crypto-situationist zine, and he is one third of FLIM FLAM; a Dada-influenced club-night. He also runs Can't Cheat Karma; a DIY tape label and zine press, and he occasionally puts on punk shows as part of Better Off Dead collective. Fidge's solo projects include /./:././:/ (electronic post-punk), F. Neechee (minimalist dubstep/drone), and Tommy Comstock (anti-folk/folk-punk). Fidge lives and works in Brighton where he spends the majority of his time meditating, eating burritos, kitchen-dancing to Le Tigre, smoking pot, and binge-watching cartoons.
An experimental composer from Ireland, Stephen Roddy proves equally adept at crushing soundscapes as he does mysterious melodies. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 13, 2022
